White Ribbon Day
25th November is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and White Ribbon Day. Each year the Centre partners with White Ribbon Ambassadors and male leaders in the community to launch the 16 Days of Activism Against Gendered Violence. The 2017 White Ribbon Day event took place on 25th November.
The ceremony commemorated the 44 women’s lives lost to violence at that time in 2017. Wagga Women’s Health Centre hosted this male led event emceed by Brad Addison (Anglicare).
Mark Sadler of the Wiradjuri Mob spoke at the event saying “Mabinya nginha dhalang ! (stop this today)
Dhalang ngadhi ngurrigiilang (today I proud) to attend a ceremony in Wagaan Wagaan (Wagga Wagga) where madhu mayiny (many people) took a stand against violence to women.
Gibirr (men) should not harm yinaa-bu gudha-bu (women or children)
The event was supported by leaders from Kapooka, RAAF Base Wagga, NAVY, Ambulance Service Australia, Rotary Club of Wollundry, NSW Police and Leaders and representatives from 1st Kooringal Scout Troop. Attendees were asked to tie 44 white ribbons to pledge their support to end violence against women.
